Pet Therapy

Bringing Joy and Comfort Through Pet Therapy

Capstone Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing

The vision of the Pet Therapy program is to provide our residents with something they can love and care for, something that adds meaning to their lives.

The program provides companionship, love and lots of entertainment. All of our facility’s pets have been adopted from the community and the staff of Capstone Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing support their care and health through a variety of fundraising programs. This program has truly helped transform our facility into a spontaneous, often unpredictable, but homey environment and has been a shining example of how much life pets can bring into a facility.

Visiting pets are welcome with proper health records on file in the Activity Office and must be on a leash at all times.

At Capstone Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, our Recreation Therapy Department is designed to stimulate the body and mind through a broad range of activities intended to encourage social interaction and promote health and wellness.

Every day is alive with a variety of social events and festivities. Under the leadership of a Therapeutic Recreation Director, our events calendar is full of meaningful and entertaining programs. The Recreation staff is augmented by a dedicated team of volunteers. Residents often enjoy the companionship of children, teens, plants and pets. Local churches provide religious support via weekly services and individual visits.

Residents look forward to seasonal events such as holiday concerts, semi-formal events, summer picnics, and barbeques. They can take advantage of the many activities offered, or they can simply sit and enjoy our beautiful landscaped grounds while relaxing on our beautiful outdoor patio, enjoying the breathtaking views.

Capstone Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing appreciates and values the opinions of our residents when it comes to their care and stay at our facility. The residents of the facility can choose to participate in the Resident Council. This council has elected officers and holds monthly business meetings. Through the Resident Council, residents can make recommendations for recreational programs and operational improvements, conduct fundraisers for community charity programs, and demonstrate to themselves and others that they still have quite a lot to offer and contribute.

Delicious Dining & Personalized Nutrition at Capstone Nursing and Rehab

Capstone Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing

Restaurant Style Dining and Therapeutic Diets: The dining experience at Capstone Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing is a culinary treat. In conjunction with our dietitian, our talented chef prepares nutritious meals that are appetizing and satisfy even the most demanding tastes.

Scrumptious, wholesome, and appetizing meals are prepared daily, taking into account the dietary considerations of our residents. All entrees are freshly prepared in our kitchen daily, using the finest, natural ingredients and reduced salt and sugar when necessary. Each selection is served with extra touches that make it look and taste delicious. Residents may choose their meal from a “Resident Approved” menu that includes a main entrée as well as an alternate entrée for every lunch and dinner. Special therapeutic diets are provided as specifically prescribed by the guest’s attending physician and supervised by a dietician. Clinical dietary staff monitors dining rooms to ensure each resident’s satisfaction with their daily meals.

Guests are encouraged to dine in our cheerful dining rooms with their friends. However, private room service is available when there is a medical necessity.

Holiday meals are celebrated with festive traditions. Special meals such as buffet breakfasts, picnic lunches, Father’s Day Breakfast, Mother’s Day Tea, and Sweetheart Luncheons become social events and are greatly enjoyed by residents. Summertime brings weekly barbeques enjoyed on the outside patio. Family members may enjoy sharing a meal or a holiday meal in our facility and are welcome to join residents at any time. Advanced registration for guest meals is appreciated. Nominal fees are charged and may be paid at the Reception Desk.

Each care community unit also houses a fully stocked kitchenette, which ensures constant availability of beverages and light refreshments anytime of the day or night. Delicious snacks and nutritional supplements are provided per the request and/or need of our residents as well as by physicians’ orders.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

I’ve been at Capstone for about a month. I studied Early Childhood Elementary at SUNY Plattsburgh and graduated in 2007. I worked in that field for a few years and then decided I wanted to take my career to the next level and continue to help in the community by becoming a nurse! I have a passion for helping those with dementia and their families, as it has personally impacted my life in so many ways. In my spare time, I love spending time with my husband, son and golden retriever. I love being on the lake or ocean, fall is my favorite season while I watch Notre Dame Football games with my family and friends.
